Mutual Warranty's Plans and Coverages

Mutual Warranty offers two plans and a number of options that can be included for an additional fee:

  • The Premium Plan is the basic version, covering the home’s essential infrastructure and appliances.
  • The Signature Plan has additional coverage that includes the clothes washer and dryer, a central air conditioning system, the water softener and limited roof coverage.

Limited roof coverage is defined as service for small amounts of damage. If a small gust of wind comes along and blows off a few shingles, then a rainstorm rolls in and the roof is leaking, it likely would be covered. However, if there is a large storm that causes severe roof damage, the responsibility for repair would fall to the homeowners’ insurance policy rather than the warranty.

Optional coverage that is available with either plan includes a swimming pool heater and filter system, computer systems, a home theater system, a well pump, a second refrigerator and a stand alone freezer.

Mutual also sells its warranties to home buyers and sellers. For sellers in particular, the company will sell a warranty on the home after it has been listed and wait until the home is sold for payment. Coverage for the buyer takes effect upon close of escrow. As with most home warranties, the Mutual products are one-year renewable agreements. Prices for the warranties vary based on the size and age of the home, number of adjacent structures, etc.

Mutual will also sell warranties to landlords who do not occupy the structure that is being warranted. The company has a policy rider that provides for no service fee, so that the landlord will not be put in a position of collecting it from the tenant. The service center call system that Mutual operates makes it possible for the tenant to call for service and Mutual will take it from there.
