Houston, Texas Home Insurance
Everything’s big in Texas, but
who would’ve guessed that includes homeowners insurance
costs? Texas homeowners pay the highest average premium in
the nation, at $1,238. According to the U.S. Geological Survey,
Texans are at risk of hurricanes and tornadoes. The state also
experiences frequent severe hailstorms. All that risk adds
up to big premiums.
Homeowner problems can vary within the same state. For example, Houston homeowners have reported a recent increase in mold claims, in addition to being at risk of hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding. The Federal Emergency Management Agency allocated $1.2 million to cover Houston’s property damage from tropical storm Allison in 2003.
