Lititz Mutual Insurance Company

Lititz began as a rural, regional fire insurance company in 1888. It was founded by a group of Pennsylvania Dutch businessmen and farmers and retains much of its small town orientation. Today, the company operates under four different names taken from other small insurers that it has acquired. Their products are sold through independent agents - people who represent a number of insurance companies for different product lines.

The Lititz group of products remains close to the orientation of the founders. They have policies for the following:

  • Preferred homeowners
  • Home computer owners
  • Home businesses
  • Personal umbrella coverage
  • Business owners
  • Farm owners

Their homeowners’ policy provides the replacement cost for the dwelling with no deduction for depreciation. The policy also has standard coverage for personal property and liability. Homeowners have the option of buying increased levels of coverage for both personal possessions and liability. The website spells out the limits on coverage for various types of personal property.

Home computer insurance covers losses, including software, worldwide and at replacement cost. The package can be added to the homeowners’ policy.

The home business policy has some interesting elements. There are rules as to what defines a home business in order to qualify. Here are the coverage areas:

  • Furnishing, supplies and equipment of a business located in your residence
  • Other structures protection, if your business is conducted from a garage, workshop or similar structure on your premises
  • Outdoor signs, for loss or damage to your business sign
  • Computers and related equipment, including business data protection
  • Additional living expense, in the event of loss, to continue your home business
  • Accounts receivable, when a loss results in the inability to collect accounts
  • Business credit cards, for forgery and counterfeit money
  • Money and securities, with protection both on and off premises
  • Refrigerated products, for contents of a deep freeze or refrigerator units
  • Arson reward, for a covered premises fire
  • Business liability coverage for legal liability obligations, including personal injury and advertising injury
